The Mini broke new ground in 1959 thanks to its compactness; its engine was turned sideways with its gearbox tucked under-neath so that four seats could be squeezed into its 10ft length. Its maverick designer, Sir Alex Issigonis, was a chain smoker,
so there was an ashtray. But he hated noise while he drove, so there was no room left for a radio.

To set the alarm
On the back on the tin clock you have a winder which controls the alarm, wind this to ensure the bell rings every morning! A seperate control which you twist to use sets the time that you want to be woken up. (indicated by bell symbol)
To set the clock
The other winder powers the clock and keeps it ticking all day long. This also has a seperate control to enable you to set the time.

Haynes Range

John Haynes wrote and published his first book, on building an Austin 7 Special, whilst he was still at school in 1956. He wrote two more ' builders' manuals while doing his National Service in the RAF. The first 'proper' Haynes Owners Workshop Manual, for the Austin Healy 'Frogeye' Sprite, was published in 1965. Based on the stripdown and rebuild of the project vehicle with an extensive use of step-by-step photographs, a process that has not changed to this day.

There are around 300 UK car manuals in print at present with 130 Plus UK motorcycle manual titles. (Not to mention equivalent ranges in the USA, France and Sweden.) Writing a car manual is no easy job, it takes 20 to 30 man-weeks. Authors work in pairs to help shorten the origination time and to avoid themselves going crazy. From the start of a project to the publication of the manual it usually takes between three to six months.

This range is great for motor enthusiasts, anyone with a passion for a specific car, or people who just appreciate the classic Haynes car manual imagery.
